Blu-ray and DVD Releases for 8/3/10

Leading this weeks releases is Kick-Ass, in which Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.

Extras on the DVD will include a commentary with director Matthew Vaughn, 2 featurettes ("The Art of KICK-ASS", "It’s On! The Comic Book Origin of KICK-ASS"), and a Marketing Archive. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo release will include all of that, along with an Ass-Kicking BonusView Mode, a 4-part A New Kind of Superhero: The Making of KICK-ASS featurette, BD-Live features, and a digital copy of the film.

The best price for Kick-Ass this week is $16.99 for the DVD at Target, and $22.99 for the Blu-ray at Amazon and Best Buy.   Best Buy offers a free $5 CinemaNow Gift Card with purchase of the Blu-ray.

Also releasing this week is Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a live-action adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s illustrated novel about a wise-cracking sixth grade student.

Extras on the DVD will include commentary with Director Thor Freudenthal and Writer Gabe Sachs, and Greg’s Deleted Diary Pages. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo release will also include an additional digital copy of the film.

The best price for Diary of a Wimpy Kid this week is $16.99 for the DVD at Amazon and Target, and $24.99 for the Blu-ray at Amazon and Target.   There are no exclusives for this release.
